In the monsoon, make your routine lighter, not heavier. Mornings: a gentle low-pH cleanser, a niacinamide serum, an oil-free gel moisturiser and a sweat-resistant SPF 50 sunscreen. Evenings: double cleanse if you wore sunscreen or makeup, then a light moisturiser. Drop heavy creams, but never drop moisturiser or sunscreen. Three good starting products for oily skin: COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel and Missha Water Proof Sun Milk SPF50+.
Why your skin acts up in the Bangladesh monsoon
From June to September, Dhaka’s humidity often sits around 80%, with heavy rain and waterlogging. In that damp, heavy air, skin sweats more, sweat does not evaporate, and oil stays on the surface. Road dust and bus exhaust stick to that oil and clog pores. The result: shine, blackheads, breakouts and, for many people, fungal acne.
A common belief is, "There is water in the air, so my skin needs nothing." Not true. Office AC, frequent face washing and harsh cleansers still pull water out of the skin. You end up oily on top and dehydrated underneath. So the fix is a light, oil-free, but complete routine.
The monsoon routine, step by step
Morning
- Gentle low-pH cleanser. Washes off overnight sweat and oil without stripping. A pea-sized amount is enough; massage for 30–40 seconds and rinse with cool or room-temperature water. For which one suits which skin type, see which face wash.
- Hydrating toner (optional). If skin feels tight, press a few drops in with your palms. Oily skin can skip this step.
- Niacinamide serum. Two or three drops. With regular use it helps regulate oil and shine and makes pores look smaller. It takes weeks, not a day. More in the serum guide.
- Light gel moisturiser. Yes, oily skin needs it too. Skip moisturiser and skin tends to produce more oil. Choose an oil-free gel or lotion. See which moisturiser.
- Sunscreen, non-negotiable. UV reaches skin through cloud cover. Use two finger-lengths for face and neck, and reapply every 2–3 hours when you are outdoors. For what survives the rains, see sweat-proof monsoon sunscreen.
Evening
- Double cleanse if you wore sunscreen or makeup. Massage a cleansing oil onto dry skin, emulsify with water, then follow with your morning cleanser. A single face wash does not fully remove water-resistant sunscreen.
- Treatment. For clogged pores or blackheads, salicylic acid (BHA) two or three nights a week. On nights when skin is red or reactive, calm it with a centella serum instead. Never several acids on the same night.
- Light moisturiser to seal. Your morning one is fine.

Dry skin does not need heavy cream in the monsoon either, but pick a light lotion rather than a gel. Not sure of your skin type? Take the 60-second skin quiz.
What to change for monsoon
- Switch heavy creams to gels. Rich creams feel suffocating and clog pores in humidity.
- Add oil control. Niacinamide, plus blotting paper in your bag. Do not wash your face four or five times a day; that pushes skin to make more oil. More in controlling oily skin in humidity.
- Watch for fungal acne. Small, same-size, itchy bumps on the forehead, hairline, chest or back may not be regular acne. See fungal acne in the monsoon.
- Do not skip sunscreen or moisturiser. These are the two biggest monsoon mistakes. The full list is in monsoon skincare mistakes.
- Change out of wet clothes fast. Sitting all day at the office in a rain-soaked shirt or socks encourages fungal growth. If rain or flood water touches your skin, wash with soap and water and dry thoroughly. See rain and flood-water skin and foot care.
Tips for real life in Bangladesh
- If you commute by rickshaw, bus or bike, keep a small sunscreen or stick in your bag and reapply once after lunch.
- When load-shedding stops the fan, you sweat more. Use a light gel at bedtime instead of a heavy night cream.
- Change pillowcases at least twice a week; oil and sweat build up fast in humid months.
- Do not keep wiping your face with a damp towel. Keep a separate, dry, clean face towel.
- Drink enough water. You lose a lot through sweat, and replacing it helps your skin too.
What not to do
- Scrubbing or using a harsh foaming wash several times a day.
- Starting BHA, AHA and retinol all at once.
- Skipping sunscreen on rainy days because "there is no sun".
- Heavy oil or ghee-style home packs, which clog pores in humidity.
When to see a doctor
If breakouts are large, painful or pus-filled, leave marks, or an itchy rash does not settle within two or three weeks or keeps spreading, see a dermatologist. Do not wait either if you get cracked, red, smelly sores between your toes.

Frequently asked questions
How should dry skin adjust its routine in monsoon?
Dry skin shouldn't skip moisturizer even in monsoon, but switching to a slightly lighter gel-cream can prevent it from feeling too heavy in humid air. A hydrating serum at night can help too.
Where can I buy an original low pH cleanser or sunscreen in Bangladesh for monsoon?
Buy from a seller who can show the importer's invoice and batch number for the product. This matters for everyday basics like cleanser and sunscreen too, not just treatment serums.
How can I check if a monsoon skincare product is genuine?
Check the batch number and seal on the packaging, and be cautious if the color, smell or texture feels different from what you expect. Blurry label printing is another common sign of a fake.
