Quick answer
Most people who call their skin sensitive have a damaged barrier instead — which is good news, because that is fixable in weeks.

True sensitivity is consistent and lifelong — you have always reacted to fragrance, wool, heat. A damaged barrier is acquired: skin that used to tolerate everything suddenly stings. The second is far more common, and it repairs.
1. Work out which one you have
If products you used happily for years now sting, that is a barrier problem, not sensitivity.
2. Strip the routine back
Cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen only, for two to four weeks.
3. Patch-test properly
Inner forearm, twice daily, for five days before putting anything new on your face.
4. Add fragrance-free where you can
Fragrance is the single most common avoidable irritant.
5. Reintroduce one product at a time
Two weeks apart. Introducing two at once tells you nothing.
What "hypoallergenic" actually means
Nothing standardised. It is a marketing term with no legal definition in most markets — read the ingredient list instead.
