Quick answer
Winter hair needs moisture and sealing, in that order. Most routines do one and skip the other.

Shop verified hair masks →Moisture first, then seal
Dry hair needs water-based hydration *and* a lipid layer to hold it. A mask alone, or oil alone, only does half the job.
1. Wash less, condition every time
Two to three washes a week is enough in winter. Condition at every wash.
2. A weekly deep mask
Fifteen to twenty minutes on mid-lengths and ends, not the scalp.
3. Seal damp, not dry
A few drops of serum or oil on damp hair traps moisture. On dry hair it only coats.
4. Protect from heat
Heat styling on already-dry winter hair is what turns rough into broken.
