Quick answer
Hair masks split into two types that do opposite jobs. Using the wrong one makes hair worse, not better.

1. Moisture masks
Glycerin, aloe, oils, panthenol. For hair that feels dry, rough and straw-like.
2. Protein masks
Keratin, amino acids, hydrolysed proteins. For hair that feels limp, overly stretchy and breaks easily.
Too much protein makes hair brittle. Too much moisture makes it mushy and flat. Most winter hair needs moisture first.
3. Apply to mid-lengths and ends only
Mid-lengths and ends only, never the scalp. Fifteen to twenty minutes — longer does not deepen the effect. Once a week is enough for most hair.
4. The stretch test tells you which you need
Take a wet strand and stretch it gently. Snaps immediately → needs moisture. Stretches a long way and stays limp → needs protein.
