Quick answer
Most baby skin trouble comes from something added, not something missing. These are the ingredients and habits paediatric dermatologists warn about.

1. Fragrance, including "natural" scent
The single most common avoidable irritant. Essential oils count as fragrance.
2. Alcohol, parabens, phthalates, sulfates and dyes
Standard paediatric guidance is to avoid these on immature skin.
3. Harsh surfactants in washes
If cocamidopropyl betaine is the first ingredient, the wash is harsher than it looks and is linked to dryness and contact dermatitis.
4. Any exfoliating acid
Salicylic acid above 2% is explicitly unsafe for babies and young children. In practice, no exfoliant belongs on baby skin at all.
5. Adult products "used carefully"
Anti-ageing, brightening and acne products are formulated for a mature barrier. Dilution does not make them appropriate.
6. Talc-heavy powders in the nappy area
Inhalation risk and no real benefit. A barrier ointment does the job better.
7. Home remedies on broken skin
Mustard oil, lemon, toothpaste and raw honey on rashes are common here and all carry irritation or infection risk.
The safest habit
Introduce one product at a time and wait a few days. If everything changes at once and the skin reacts, you will never know which thing caused it.
