Quick answer
Oily-skin products are built strong; sensitive skin cannot take strong. This is the combination most likely to end in a damaged barrier — here is the middle path.

Products marketed for oily skin lean on high-strength acids, alcohol and strong foaming agents. Sensitive skin reacts to exactly those. Follow oily-skin advice with sensitive skin and you get the classic result: skin that is *both* stripped and still oily, because a damaged barrier overproduces oil.
1. Gel or lotion texture, gentle formula
You need the light texture of an oily-skin product with the mild formula of a sensitive-skin one. Read the ingredient list, not the front of the bottle.
2. One active, low strength, twice a week
Niacinamide is the safest starting point here — it helps oil and is rarely irritating. Salicylic acid at low percentage, two nights a week, only if tolerated.
3. Never strip
No high-foam sulphate cleanser, no alcohol toner, no clay mask more than once a week. If skin feels tight a minute after washing, the cleanser is wrong.
4. Moisturize anyway
Skipping it is the most common mistake in this group, and it makes both problems worse.
5. Fragrance-free by default
Fragrance is the most common avoidable irritant, and many oil-control products are heavily fragranced.
The test that settles it
If a product stings on application, that is not "it's working" — that is your answer.
