Choosing a face cream for men comes down to two questions: what your skin is like, and what season it is.
- Oily or combination skin, summer: a gel moisturizer such as Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel or CeraVe Oil Control Moisturizing Gel Cream.
- Budget, oily skin: Deconstruct Oil-Free Moisturizer or Pond’s Hydra Miracle Light Moisturiser.
- Dry skin or winter: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream or Cetaphil Moisturising Cream.
- Post-shave sting or sensitive skin: iUNIK Centella Calming Gel Cream.
And one thing to be clear about: do not buy creams that promise to change your colour. A moisturizer’s job is to keep skin healthy.
Why men need a moisturizer
Many men think their face is already oily, so a cream will make it greasier. But everyday male habits dry the skin out:
- Regular shaving: a razor removes not just hair but a thin layer of the skin surface too.
- Washing the face with body soap: soap is too harsh for the face and leaves it tight.
- AC offices and sun: both pull water out of the skin.
- Dry winter air.
Dehydrated skin can look oilier, sting and feel rough. The right texture fixes this without feeling greasy. The full men’s routine is in skincare for men: four products.
Gel, lotion or cream?
- Gel or gel-cream: mostly water, very light, absorbs in seconds. The most comfortable choice for oily and combination skin and for Bangladesh’s hot, humid months.
- Lotion: a little richer than a gel but still light. Works all year for normal skin.
- Cream: thick, richer in oils, lasts longer. Good for dry skin and the November to February winter.
For many men, the simplest answer is to own two: a gel for summer and a cream for winter. Winter creams are covered in detail in the best winter cream for men.
How to tell your skin type
Before searching for a “men’s cream”, do a quick one-night test. Wash with a gentle cleanser at night, apply nothing, and check the mirror after an hour:
- Shiny all over: oily. Use a gel or oil-free lotion.
- Shiny forehead and nose, normal cheeks: combination. Use a gel, with a little extra on the cheeks in winter.
- Tight, rough, white flakes: dry. Use a cream.
- Red, stinging, prickly after shaving: sensitive. Use a low-fragrance, soothing gel-cream or cream.
Give a new moisturizer two to four weeks of regular use before judging it. Do not expect results on day one, and do not start three new products at once.

How to apply, and how much
Morning:
- Wash with a gentle face wash, not body soap.
- While the face is still slightly damp, apply a pea-sized amount of moisturizer. Dot it on the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin and spread, including the neck.
- After 1 to 2 minutes, sunscreen, whether or not you are going outside. Which one is covered in the best sunscreen for men.
Night: wash, then the same moisturizer. A little more in winter or on dry patches.
With a beard: gel textures get into a beard easily. Work it in with fingertips against the direction of growth so it reaches the skin. White flakes or itching under the beard can be dryness or something else.
After shaving
- Rinse with cool water and pat dry with a soft towel.
- Wait 2 to 3 minutes.
- Apply a soothing, low-fragrance moisturizer such as iUNIK Centella Calming Gel Cream. For a cooling feel in summer, aloe gel works, after testing it on the jaw.
- Skip alcohol-based, heavily scented aftershaves. They increase stinging and dryness.
If red bumps or razor bumps keep coming back, shaving technique matters more than the cream. Details are in razor bumps and shaving irritation.
Fairness creams: why they are a trap
TV and social media are full of ads for men’s “fairness” or lightening creams. Plainly:
- No cream can change your natural skin colour. Colour is set by genetics.
- Most give a temporary whitish sheen that washes off.
- Some unregulated creams contain hidden harmful ingredients. They can make the face look brighter for a while, then leave the skin thinner, red, sensitive and breakout-prone. Stopping them can make things worse.
- The real issue is usually tan and marks from the sun. The answer is daily sunscreen and healthy, hydrated skin, which naturally looks fresher.
So the goal is not lighter skin but even, clear, healthy skin.
Bangladesh-specific points
- April to September: humidity is high, so use a gel. Heavy creams mix with sweat and can make the face oily and breakout-prone.
- AC offices: even when it is hot outside, skin dries indoors. If your face feels tight by afternoon, a little more gel is fine.
- Winter and the cold north: a thicker cream, and do not wash your face with hot water.
- Counterfeits: every product on TheSkinProof is batch-checked against the importer invoice, and any product can be verified with the free product checker. A proven counterfeit is refunded at 2× the price.
Common mistakes
- Skipping moisturizer entirely because the skin is oily.
- Washing with body soap and then trying to “fix” it with a heavy cream.
- Rubbing a fingerful of cream on the face. A pea-sized amount is enough.
- Buying creams that promise to change colour.
- Using a father’s or wife’s night cream without knowing what is in it.
When to see a doctor
- Red, flaky, itchy patches that do not improve with moisturizer, especially on the eyebrows, sides of the nose or beard area.
- Pus-filled bumps that keep appearing after shaving.
- Swelling, burning or a spreading rash after applying any cream.
- A red, sensitive face or worse breakouts after stopping a “fairness” cream. In that case, see a dermatologist rather than trying another cream yourself.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best moisturizer for men with oily skin in Bangladesh?
A light gel or oil-free lotion such as Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel, CeraVe Oil Control Moisturizing Gel Cream or, on a budget, Deconstruct Oil-Free Moisturizer. These absorb quickly, do not feel greasy and help stop stripped skin from overproducing oil. A pea-sized amount is enough for the whole face.
What should men apply after shaving?
Rinse with cool water, wait 2 to 3 minutes, then apply a soothing, low-fragrance moisturizer such as iUNIK Centella Calming Gel Cream or Cetaphil Moisturising Cream. Alcohol-based aftershaves tend to sting and dry the skin. Recurring red bumps or razor bumps usually mean the shaving technique needs to change.
Do fairness creams for men work?
No cream can change your natural skin colour. Most give a temporary whitish sheen at best. Some unregulated creams contain hidden harmful ingredients that thin the skin and make it red and breakout-prone. To reduce tan and marks, daily sunscreen and a good moisturizer are what actually help.
