Quick answer
Excess calcium and magnesium leave a film on hair that blocks moisture and causes breakage. It is one of the most common hair complaints here and one of the least discussed.

Water in many parts of Bangladesh carries excess calcium and magnesium. Washing in it leaves a mineral film on the hair shaft and scalp. That film blocks moisture getting in, leaves hair dull and rough, and over time causes breakage that reads as hair fall.
1. Know the signs
Shampoo that will not lather well, hair that feels coated or straw-like after washing, soap scum in the bathroom, and colour that fades fast.
2. Use a chelating or clarifying shampoo — occasionally
Once every week or two removes mineral buildup. Not daily: it strips.
3. Condition every single wash
The film makes the cuticle rough; conditioner is what smooths it back down.
4. Final rinse with stored or filtered water
Even a mug of filtered water as the last rinse makes a noticeable difference, and costs nothing.
5. A shower filter if you can
The direct fix. Worth it if hair fall is significant and the water is clearly hard.
Breakage is not the same as hair fall
Hard water mostly causes breakage — strands snapping mid-length, short broken pieces, split ends. True hair fall comes out from the root with a small white bulb. If what you are collecting is short broken fragments, the fix is the water and the handling, not a supplement.
When it is not the water
Patchy loss, a widening parting, or shedding past three months needs a doctor.
