Quick answer
If you work outdoors all day, the core is three steps: a two-finger dose of SPF 50 in the morning, reapplying from a pocket stick or tube every 2 to 3 hours, and a thorough cleanse at night. Wipes do not replace washing with water.

For field jobs, sales, delivery, site visits or any work that keeps you outside, skincare comes down to three steps:
- Morning sunscreen, in the right amount: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 50+ (oily skin) or Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Gel (dry or normal skin, big tube). On a budget, 3W Clinic Intensive UV Sunblock Cream.
- Something in your pocket to reapply: Beauty of Joseon Matte Sun Stick, every 2 to 3 hours.
- A proper cleanse at night: if your sunscreen is heavy, use Skin1004 Light Cleansing Oil before your face wash.
Everything else is optional.
What a day outdoors does to your skin
Compared with someone at a desk, an outdoor worker’s face gets many times more sun. The strongest sun, roughly 10 am to 4 pm, is exactly when field work happens. The result:
- Tan and dark spots: forehead, nose, cheeks, neck and the backs of the hands.
- Sunburn: red, stinging skin that peels later.
- Dust and smoke: road dust, construction sand and exhaust mix with sweat and clog pores, causing blackheads and breakouts.
- Early signs of ageing: years in the sun bring lines around the eyes and rougher skin.
The good news: most of this can be largely prevented with sunscreen used properly.

Morning prep (5 minutes)
- Wash with a gentle face wash and pat dry.
- If your skin is dry, a thin layer of moisturizer. For oily skin, a gel sunscreen is often enough on its own.
- Sunscreen, in the right amount: two lines along the full length of your index and middle fingers covers the face and neck. Do the ears, back of the neck, hairline and backs of the hands separately, and your forearms if you wear short sleeves.
- Apply 10 to 15 minutes before leaving so it settles.
- SPF lip balm.
Half the amount of sunscreen does not give half the protection; it gives much less. For outdoor workers this is the single biggest mistake.
The pocket reapply schedule
Morning sunscreen wears down within a few hours from sweat, wiping and dust. Set a fixed schedule so you do not forget:
| Time | What to do |
|---|---|
| 8 am | Full dose at home |
| 11 am | Blot sweat, reapply from the stick or tube |
| 2 pm | After lunch, rinse with water, pat dry, reapply |
| 5 pm | Once more if you are still outside |
A phone alarm helps. A stick is convenient because your hands stay clean and you can use it on a bike or at the roadside. Swipe each area several times, though; a single touch leaves too little. More techniques in how to reapply sunscreen during the day.
Dust, smoke and wipes
Wet wipes lift some surface grime but not the oil and sunscreen inside pores, and repeated rubbing irritates skin. When you can, rinse your face with clean water and blot with a handkerchief or tissue. You do not need face wash midday. In very dusty work, a mask and a cap both help; if sweat builds up under the mask, take it off now and then to let your face dry. There is a separate guide on breakouts from dust and traffic.
Evening cleanse: when you need to double cleanse
If you applied a heavy, sweat-resistant sunscreen two or three times, one face wash will not remove it all. Then:
- On a dry face, massage 1 to 2 pumps of cleansing oil for 30 to 45 seconds.
- Add a little water so it turns milky, then rinse.
- Follow with your regular face wash.
- Finish with moisturizer.
If you used a light gel sunscreen once, a regular face wash is enough. More in double cleansing: what it is and who needs it.
Small tips by type of work
- Delivery or ride-share: the backs of the hands and wrists get the most sun; apply sunscreen there or wear thin sleeves.
- Construction or site visits: sand and cement dust dry the skin; wash face and hands in the evening and moisturize.
- Sales or marketing: walking from shop to shop moves you in and out of shade; do not skip reapplying just because you were briefly indoors.
- Traffic or security work: standing in one spot in direct sun for hours means you need both a cap and regular reapplication.
A little weekend repair
- Give your skin a rest: just a gentle face wash and moisturizer.
- If sunburnt areas are red or hot, hold a cloth soaked in cool water on them for a few minutes, then use a fragrance-free moisturizer.
- To fade tan and spots, you can add a niacinamide serum at night, but results will not last without sunscreen.
- Do not try to scrub tan off.
The reality of outdoor work in Bangladesh
In extreme heat, drinking too little water raises the risk of dizziness, weakness and heatstroke; carry a water bottle and stay in shade at midday when you can. UV reaches you on cloudy monsoon days too, so do not skip sunscreen then. If you work on a motorbike, helmets and dust bring their own problems; read skincare for bike riders.
When to see a doctor
- Blisters, intense burning, fever or dizziness after sun exposure.
- A mole or spot that is growing, changing colour or bleeding.
- A sore on the face that does not heal in a few weeks.
- Large painful pimples or an itchy spreading rash.
See a dermatologist in these cases. For people who have worked in the sun for years, an occasional skin check is a good habit.
Why genuine products matter
A fake sunscreen is the most dangerous kind of fake, because you spend the whole day in the sun believing you are protected. Every product at TheSkinProof is batch-checked against the importer’s invoice, and if a product is proven counterfeit you get 2× your money back. Frequently asked questions
What is the best skincare routine for someone who works outdoors all day?
Apply SPF 50 sunscreen generously in the morning, carry a sun stick or tube to reapply every two to three hours, rinse with water rather than using wipes during the day, and cleanse thoroughly at night. Use a cleansing oil before the face wash if you used a heavy sunscreen several times.
How much sunscreen should outdoor workers apply?
Use two lines of sunscreen along the full length of your index and middle fingers for the face and neck, then cover the ears, back of the neck, hairline and backs of the hands separately. Using half the amount gives much less than half the protection.
Are face wipes enough for dust during the workday?
No. Wipes remove some surface grime but not the oil and sunscreen inside pores, and repeated rubbing irritates the skin. Rinse with clean water and blot dry when you can, then wash properly with a face wash at night.
