Quick answer
Outdoors, reapply sunscreen every 2 hours and after sweating or wiping your face. In an air-conditioned office away from windows, your morning layer is usually enough, but reapply before going out at lunch or for the commute home. Over makeup, a sun stick or the pat method is easiest.

- Outdoors in the sun: reapply every 2 hours, and again after heavy sweating or wiping your face with a tissue.
- In an air-conditioned office away from windows all day: a proper morning layer is usually enough. But if you go out for lunch or ride home in afternoon sun, reapply before you step out.
- Desk next to a window: ordinary glass lets UVA through, so reapply once at midday.
- With what: on bare skin, a full amount of a light gel such as Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel. Over makeup, the Beauty of Joseon Matte Sun Stick. For heavy sweat, Missha Water Proof Sun Milk.
Why you need to reapply
Sunscreen does not stay at full strength all day after one application. Sweat, touching your face, blotting oil with tissue and wearing a mask all thin the layer. In direct sun, some filters also become less effective over time. That is why the 2-hour rule is the standard advice for outdoor time.
But an office worker’s day is not a field worker’s day. Someone sitting in a windowless AC room from 9 am to 6 pm has different needs from someone in the sun all day. Match the rule to your day below.
How often, by the kind of day you have
| Your day | How often to reapply |
|---|---|
| Windowless AC office, commute by bus or car | Morning, plus before heading home if it is sunny |
| Desk by a window | Morning, plus once at midday |
| Lunch outside or client meetings | Before each time you go out |
| Field job, sales, site visits | Every 2 hours, and after sweating |
| Long rickshaw ride or walk home | Right before leaving the office |
How much
In the morning, use two finger-lengths (a line along the full length of your index and middle fingers) or about a quarter teaspoon for face and neck. When reapplying on bare skin, use the same amount. Half the amount does not give half the protection; it gives much less.
Over makeup, a full dose is not realistic. The goal there is to refresh the top layer as well as you can: with a stick, make 3 to 4 passes over each area (forehead, nose, both cheeks, chin).
Reapplying, step by step
On bare skin:
- Remove oil and sweat first. Press with a tissue, do not rub. Sunscreen over sweat does not spread evenly.
- If you can, rinse with water in the office washroom and press dry.
- Apply the full amount with a light hand. Remember the area in front of the ears, under the chin and the neck.
- Let it set for 1 to 2 minutes.
Over makeup (the pat method):
- Blot oil with a tissue.
- Sun stick: glide it directly over the face, then press lightly with your fingertips. Do not rub, or your foundation moves.
- Liquid sunscreen: put a little on the back of your hand, pick it up with a damp sponge or fingertips and press it onto the face.
- Powder sunscreen: a powder such as Lakme 9 to 5 Sun Expert Compact SPF 40 absorbs oil and cuts shine. But nobody applies powder thickly enough to get the SPF on the label, so treat it as an extra top-up, not your main protection.

The reality of office life in Bangladesh
- The commute is where most of the sun is. Standing at a bus stop or riding a rickshaw at 9 am, and again on the way home. Put your morning sunscreen on 10 to 15 minutes before you leave.
- A window seat on the metro or an AC bus still puts sun on your face. If you sit on the sunny side, count it.
- Sweat: in hot months you arrive at work with a damp face. Blot when you get in, and reapply before any midday outing.
- When load-shedding or a broken AC makes the office hot, you sweat indoors too. Follow the outdoor rule then.
- Masks rub sunscreen off the nose and upper cheeks. Reapply there after you take the mask off.
Common mistakes
- Rubbing oil off with a tissue and not reapplying. The sunscreen comes off with the oil.
- Treating an SPF foundation or powder as your main sunscreen. You apply too little to get the labelled protection.
- Skipping the morning layer because "there is no sun in the office", while spending an hour in the sun commuting.
- An old opened sunscreen kept for months in a hot bag. Check the expiry and whether the smell or colour has changed.
Which texture for which skin
- Oily: gels or dry-touch finishes. At midday, blot with powder, then use a stick.
- Dry: a light moisturising gel; some people find repeated stick use drying.
- Sensitive: patch-test any new sunscreen on the jaw for 2 days first. See sunscreen for sensitive skin.

When to see a doctor
If a sunscreen repeatedly stings, reddens, itches or causes bumps, stop using it and see a dermatologist if it does not settle. If you blister from sunburn, or a mole on your face starts changing, see a doctor without delay.
Every sunscreen we sell is batch-checked against the importer’s invoice, with 2× money back if proven counterfeit. We have not lab-tested SPF values ourselves; ratings are the manufacturers’ labels.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I reapply sunscreen at work?
It depends on your day. Outdoors, reapply every 2 hours and after sweating or wiping your face. In an air-conditioned office away from windows, a proper morning layer is usually enough, but reapply before going out at lunch or riding home in sunlight. A desk beside a window needs one midday reapplication.
How do I reapply sunscreen without ruining my makeup?
Blot oil with a tissue first, then use a sun stick or the pat method. Glide the stick over the face and press gently with your fingertips, or press liquid sunscreen on with a damp sponge. Avoid rubbing, which moves foundation. A stick like the Beauty of Joseon Matte Sun Stick is the easiest option.
Is sunscreen powder enough for reapplying at the office?
Sunscreen powder is useful for cutting shine and as a light top-up, but it should not be your only protection. People rarely apply powder thickly enough to get the SPF on the label. Keep a cream or gel sunscreen as your main morning layer and use powder only as an extra.
