Quick answer
From mid-February, switch step by step over 2 to 4 weeks: Purito Oat-In Calming Gel Cream at night, a light Skin1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum in the morning, actives back at two nights a week, and a lighter body lotion.

Do not change your routine overnight when winter ends. Change it step by step over 2 to 4 weeks, from mid-February through March. Swap the rich night cream for a light gel-cream such as Purito Seoul Oat-In Calming Gel Cream. In the morning, move from a moisturising sunscreen to a lighter one such as Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum, keeping the amount the same and reapplying as the sun gets stronger. Bring back the actives you cut in winter (retinol, BHA, vitamin C) starting at two nights a week. On the body, swap heavy cream for a lighter Dot & Key Vitamin C + E Sorbet Body Lotion. Store leftover winter creams capped, somewhere cool and dry.
Why step by step, not all at once
Winter in Bangladesh does not leave suddenly. February mornings are still foggy while the midday sun is strong. In March nights warm up, humidity rises and sweating starts. Two kinds of mistakes are common now:
- Carrying January's heavy cream into March. The face turns greasy and tiny bumps and whiteheads appear.
- Changing everything in one day: foaming wash, matte gel, retinol every night. The skin has not fully recovered from winter dryness yet, so it stings and peels.
Changing in steps gives your skin time to adjust, and if something goes wrong you can tell which change caused it. The reverse journey, when we made the routine richer from October to December, is in skincare when the season changes. Now we simply walk that path back.
A 4-week switch plan
Week 1 (mid-February): only the night cream
Keep your day routine the same. At night, halve the amount of rich cream, or use the rich cream on the cheeks and something lighter on the T-zone. If your face feels oily in the morning, it is time to go lighter.
Week 2: switch to a light cream at night
At night use a gel-cream such as Purito Seoul Oat-In Calming Gel Cream or iUNIK Beta-Glucan Daily Moisture Cream. If dry patches remain beside the nose or at the corners of the mouth, a little of the old rich cream can go there.
Week 3: morning moisturiser and sunscreen
Make the morning moisturiser lighter, such as Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Aqua Gel. Many people with oily skin can manage with sunscreen alone. Switch the sunscreen to a lighter texture: Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum or Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen SPF50+PA++++ 70g. For oily skin, Cetaphil Very High Protection Light Gel Sun SPF50 Plus.
Week 4: bring actives back, change the face wash
If you used a creamy wash in winter and your skin is oily or combination, you can now return to a light gel or foam wash in the evening, such as CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. Keep something gentle for the morning. Dry skin should stay on a creamy wash.
When to restart actives
Many people cut back on retinol, BHA or vitamin C in winter. Before you restart, check: is there any peeling, stinging or redness left? If so, wait another week or two.
- Vitamin C (morning): the easiest to start with, because together with sunscreen it helps reduce sun damage. Two to three drops every other morning, such as Beauty of Joseon Light On Serum: Centella + Vita C. If all is well after a week, every day.
- BHA (night): clogged pores increase as heat and sweat rise. Start COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid at two nights a week and slowly build to three.
- Retinol (night): last. A pea-sized amount of The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane, two nights a week, with moisturiser. Not on the same night as BHA. For more, see the retinol guide.
Important: if you use a treatment prescribed by a doctor for acne or anything else, the doctor decides when and how many nights; do not start or stop it yourself. During pregnancy or breastfeeding do not use retinol or any retinoid, nor high-strength acids; ask your own doctor what is suitable.
More sun, more sunscreen
From March the sun gets strong quickly, and you start sweating when you are out at midday. So:
- Keep the amount the same: two finger-lengths for face and neck. Do not use less just because the texture is lighter.
- Outdoors, reapply every two to three hours, sooner if you sweat. How to reapply is covered in this guide.
- An SPF lip balm: Fix Derma Lip Shield SPF50 PA+++. Cut the thick night lip mask down to a few nights a week.
- Sunscreen on hands, neck and the tops of the feet if they are uncovered.
Body care: from heavy cream to light lotion
If you used a thick cream on your body in winter, it will feel sticky in March heat. After bathing, switch to a light lotion: Dot & Key Vitamin C + E Sorbet Body Lotion or CeraVe Moisturising Lotion for Dry to Very Dry Skin. If heels and elbows are still rough, keep the old rich cream for those spots at night. Bring bath water down from lukewarm to normal as well.
What to do with leftover winter products
- Close lids tightly and store somewhere cool, dry and dark. Not on the bathroom shelf or by the window; heat and humidity spoil creams.
- Check the after-opening life. The open-jar symbol with "12M" means 12 months after opening. Write the opening date on the pack with a marker.
- Ask whether it will last until next winter. If the after-opening life has passed, or the colour, smell or texture has changed, throw it away.
- Use rich face creams up on the body. Finish them on heels, elbows or hands at night.
- Vitamin C serums spoil fast in heat. Replace one that turns dark orange or brown.
Detailed storage rules for the heat are in where to store skincare in the heat.
The new routine: a day in March
Morning:
- A gentle wash or just water.
- Two to three drops of vitamin C serum (optional).
- A light gel moisturiser, two pea-sized amounts.
- A light sunscreen, two finger-lengths; SPF balm on the lips.
Night:
- Face wash (micellar water first if you wore sunscreen or makeup).
- BHA or retinol two to three nights a week, on separate nights.
- A light gel-cream.
To compare with the full winter day, see the 24-hour winter skincare routine. The full summer routine is in summer skincare in Bangladesh.
Common mistakes
- Changing everything on the first warm day. It can turn cold again after Falgun begins.
- Using too little sunscreen because it feels light.
- Restarting vitamin C, BHA and retinol all at once. One at a time, a week apart.
- Using last year's opened cream without checking its date.
- Dropping body lotion. Even in the heat, a light lotion after bathing helps.
The Bangladesh reality
February brings the Boi Mela, Pohela Falgun and Valentine's Day, with whole days out in the sun. In 2027 Ramadan is also expected to begin in February (depending on the moon sighting). Drinking less water while fasting can make skin feel dry, so do not rush to a lighter cream then; read Ramadan skincare while fasting. Winter leaves the north of the country a little later than Dhaka or Chattogram. So go by your skin, not the calendar: an oily face in the morning and a cream that feels sticky mean it is time to go lighter.
When to see a doctor
If stinging, redness or peeling lasts more than three to four days after restarting an active, stop it and go back to moisturiser. If it still does not settle, or your face swells, or large painful pimples with pus appear, see a doctor. If prickly heat or itchy patches start spreading as the heat arrives, get those checked too.
Why buy authentic
If you buy a new sunscreen or serum for the new season, it must be genuine: a fake sunscreen does not give the SPF on the label, so sun marks and burns increase in the heat. Frequently asked questions
When should I switch to a lighter moisturiser after winter?
Usually from mid-February, but go by your skin rather than the date. If your face is oily in the morning or your night cream feels sticky, it is time. Halve the rich cream in week one, then move to a light gel-cream such as Purito Seoul Oat-In Calming Gel Cream in week two.
When can I restart retinol after winter?
Once peeling, stinging and redness have gone, usually in early March. Use a pea-sized amount of The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane two nights a week with moisturiser, not on BHA nights. If it is a prescribed treatment, your doctor decides. Do not use retinol during pregnancy.
Which sunscreen should I use in March?
A light, watery sunscreen such as Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum or Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence; for oily skin, Cetaphil Very High Protection Light Gel Sun. Keep the amount at two finger-lengths and reapply every two to three hours outdoors.
How should I store leftover winter creams?
Close the lid tightly and keep them somewhere cool, dry and dark, not in the bathroom. Check the after-opening life on the pack, such as 12M for 12 months. Throw away anything whose colour, smell or texture has changed, and use up rich face creams on heels and elbows.
