A full winter day of skincare comes down to five habits: a gentle cleanser, then a cream, then sunscreen in the morning; an SPF lip balm during the day; body lotion within 3 minutes of your bath; a slightly richer cream at night; and a lip mask just before bed.
- Morning cleanse: CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser Normal to Dry (dry skin) or COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser (oily skin).
- Cream: Cerave Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin, or on a budget Simple Kind To Skin Replenishing Rich Moisturiser.
- Sunscreen: Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Niacinamide SPF50+ PA++++.
- Lips: The Derma Co 1% Ceramide Complex Lip Balm SPF30 PA++ by day, Laneige Lip sleeping mask at night.
- Body: CeraVe Moisturising Lotion for Dry to Very Dry Skin after your bath.
Below we walk through every part of the day, from waking up to falling asleep: what to apply, how much, and in what order. Each time of day also links to its own detailed guide.
Why winter skin feels tight all day
From December to February the air in Bangladesh loses a lot of its moisture. The dry northern wind pulls water out of the top layer of your skin. On top of that we take hot baths, run room heaters and drink less water. The skin's outer protective layer, the skin barrier, gets weaker. That is when skin feels tight, white flakes appear, lips crack, and hands and feet turn rough.
So a winter routine rests on three ideas: less rubbing, more moisture, and protection from the sun. One layer of cream in the morning will not last all day. A few small steps at set times of the day keep skin comfortable.
Right after waking up (6 to 8 am)
If your face feels very tight when you wake up, your skin lost water overnight. For dry skin, a splash of lukewarm water is enough. For oily or acne-prone skin, wash for 30 seconds with a pea-sized amount of COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.
- Use lukewarm water, not very hot.
- Pat dry with the towel; don't rub.
- If your lips are cracked, put on lip balm first and never peel the skin.
- Drink a glass of water. It is not magic for skin, but it helps break the habit of drinking too little all day.
If your face looks puffy, splash it with cool water. Full guide: What to do for your skin first thing on a winter morning.
Before going out (the morning routine)
Remember the order: cleanser, (optional) hydrating serum, moisturiser, sunscreen, lip balm.
- While your face is still damp, you can press in 2–3 drops of The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. In very dry air never leave it on its own; always seal it with cream.
- Apply one to one-and-a-half pea-sized amounts of Cerave Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin over face and neck. For oily skin, the lighter iUNIK Beta-Glucan Daily Moisture Cream is enough.
- Wait 2–3 minutes, then apply two finger-lengths of sunscreen. For dry skin Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Essence SPF50+ PA++ or Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Niacinamide SPF50+ PA++++ feel comfortable; for sensitive skin choose Axis-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen SPF50.
- Finish with The Derma Co 1% Ceramide Complex Lip Balm SPF30 PA++ on your lips.
- If you wear makeup, give the sunscreen another 5 minutes to settle.
Winter sun feels soft but UVA rays don't drop much, so don't skip sunscreen. Full guides: The winter morning routine before you go out and Do you need sunscreen in winter?.
Going out early into the fog
Fajr prayer, a morning walk, the school run or a bike ride put cold wind straight on your face. Use a little more cream, put on lip balm, and on a bike cover your cheeks with a scarf or mask. Full guide: Protecting skin and lips in the early-morning fog.
During the day and at the office
Office AC, classroom fans or shop dust make skin feel tight again by midday.
- Keep a lip balm in your bag; reapply after eating and drinking.
- After washing your hands, rub in a little cream or lotion. We don't have a dedicated hand cream on our shelf right now; any good face or body moisturiser does the job.
- If you are outdoors for long, reapply sunscreen every 2–3 hours.
- Don't keep spraying plain water; as the water evaporates it leaves skin drier.

Back home in the evening
A day's dust, smoke and sunscreen sit on your face. Clean your face first when you get home.
- If you have heavy makeup or water-resistant sunscreen, wipe it off gently with Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water on a cotton pad.
- Then wash once with CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser Normal to Dry.
- Don't leave your face bare for long after washing; apply a little cream straight away.
If you only wore sunscreen, one gentle cleanser is enough; not everyone needs to double cleanse every day in winter. Full guide: Winter skincare when you get home in the evening.
After your bath: the 3-minute rule
Skin dries out most after a bath in winter. Hot water strips away the skin's oils.
- Finish your bath in lukewarm water within 10 minutes.
- Pat dry with the towel and leave the skin slightly damp.
- Within 3 minutes apply CeraVe Moisturising Lotion for Dry to Very Dry Skin to arms, legs, elbows and knees. If you like a light scent, use Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Glow Body Lotion.
- We don't have a dedicated foot cream right now. Applying the thick Cerave Moisturising Cream For Dry to Very Dry Skin to your heels at night and sleeping in socks softens cracked heels well.

Night routine and before bed
Skin repairs itself at night, so this is the best time for a slightly richer cream.
- Wash your face (no need to wash again if you did in the evening).
- For dry skin, use two pea-sized amounts of Cerave Moisturising Cream For Dry to Very Dry Skin or Dr. Althea 147 Barrier Cream; for oily skin, iUNIK Beta-Glucan Daily Moisture Cream.
- If you use retinol or exfoliating acids, cut back to 2–3 nights a week in winter.
- Just before sleep, put a thick layer of Laneige Lip sleeping mask on your lips.
- If you run a room heater, keep a bucket of water in the room and never point the heater at your face.

Once a week
- If dead skin builds up, you can use Some By Mi AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner on a cotton pad once a week only, at night. Stop if it stings or turns your skin red. Don't scrub.
- Change your pillowcase once a week.
- Don't tear dry skin around nails or heels; soften it and apply cream.
The whole day at a glance
| Time | What to do | How much |
|---|---|---|
| After waking | Water or gentle cleanser, lip balm | Pea-sized |
| Before going out | Cream, sunscreen, SPF lip balm | Cream 1 pea, sunscreen two fingers |
| Midday | Lip balm, cream on hands, sunscreen if outdoors | A little |
| Evening | Clean face, cream | Pea-sized |
| After bath | Body lotion | 2–3 pumps for the body |
| Before bed | Richer cream, lip mask | Cream 2 peas |
Small changes by skin type
- Dry skin: just water in the morning, a rich cream by day, an even richer one at night.
- Oily skin: gel cleanser and a light cream; but don't skip cream, because oily skin gets dehydrated in winter too.
- Combination skin: a bit more cream on the cheeks, less on the T-zone.
- Sensitive skin: fragrance-free products, a mineral sunscreen, and a patch test before anything new.
The most common mistakes
- Long baths in very hot water.
- Skipping sunscreen because "there's no sun in winter".
- Licking cracked lips or peeling off the skin.
- Washing with face wash three or four times a day.
- Putting lemon, baking soda or toothpaste on your face; they irritate and weaken the barrier further.
- Using only oil and thinking skin is moisturised. Oil locks water in, but it works far less on dry skin than on damp skin.
The Bangladesh reality
Winter mornings in Dhaka bring fog and dust together, and the north of the country gets colder still. Many homes have hard water, which dries skin further (Hard water and your skin). For wedding season, trips to Sylhet, Sreemangal and Bandarban, and picnics, carry a small cream, a lip balm and a sunscreen in your bag. Hills mean stronger sun and stronger wind. Quick answers to every question are in our Winter FAQ Centre. The full-season guide: Winter skincare routine in Bangladesh.
When to see a doctor
- Skin is cracking and bleeding, or there is pus.
- Red, itchy, round patches that don't improve after 2 weeks of moisturiser (this may be eczema).
- You have diabetes and have cracks or sores on your feet.
- Sores at the corners of the mouth that won't heal.
- Itching wakes you up at night.

Frequently asked questions
What is the correct order of a winter skincare routine?
Morning: cleanser or just water, an optional hydrating serum, moisturiser, sunscreen, then lip balm. Evening: clean your face and apply cream. After a bath: body lotion within 3 minutes. Before bed: a richer cream and a lip mask. Go from thinnest to thickest, and wait 2–3 minutes between cream and sunscreen.
Do I need sunscreen in winter in Bangladesh?
Yes. Winter sun feels gentle, but the UVA rays that cause tanning and ageing stay almost the same. Apply two finger-lengths after your morning cream and reapply every 2–3 hours outdoors. For dry skin, Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Essence or Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Niacinamide feel comfortable.
What should I put on my face at night in winter?
After washing, apply about two pea-sized amounts of a rich cream such as CeraVe Moisturising Cream For Dry to Very Dry Skin or Dr. Althea 147 Barrier Cream. Oily skin can use the lighter iUNIK Beta-Glucan Daily Moisture Cream. Put Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask on your lips, and cut retinol to 2–3 nights a week.
How often should I reapply lip balm in winter?
Every time you eat or drink, and whenever your lips feel dry, usually 4–6 times a day. Use an SPF balm such as The Derma Co 1% Ceramide Complex Lip Balm SPF30 during the day and a thick mask like Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask at night. Never lick or peel cracked lips.
