Half of how long Puja makeup lasts is decided in the 30 minutes before you start it. The order: cleanse → hydrating toner → moisturizer (wait 5 minutes) → sunscreen (wait 10–15 minutes) → thin foundation → powder on the T-zone → setting spray. For dry skin, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream; for oily, CeraVe Oil Control Moisturizing Gel Cream; for sunscreen on most skin, Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics. Most pilling and melting comes from one thing: not waiting between steps. Give yourself 45 minutes from shower to door.
Why the waiting matters
Every product holds water or a light liquid that takes minutes to set. Sunscreen over wet moisturizer thins out, and foundation rubbed over wet sunscreen rolls into little balls, which is pilling. October humidity slows drying further. So the waits in this timeline are not empty: do your hair, saree pleats, jewellery or panjabi buttons then.
The 45-minute timeline
| Time | Step | What to do | During the wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0:00 | Shower | Lukewarm water, hair before face | — |
| 0:10 | Dry | Pat with a towel, leave skin slightly damp | — |
| 0:11 | Toner | 3–4 drops in your palms, pressed in | — |
| 0:12 | Moisturizer | Pea-sized, face and neck | 5 min: comb and dry hair |
| 0:18 | Sunscreen | Two finger-lengths, face, neck, ears | 10–15 min: dress, pleats, jewellery |
| 0:30 | Foundation | Thin layer, pressed with a damp sponge | 2 min |
| 0:34 | Concealer, blot | Press oil off with tissue | — |
| 0:36 | Powder | Nose, forehead and chin, very little | — |
| 0:38 | Eyes, lips | Kajal, lipstick over thin lip balm | — |
| 0:41 | Setting spray | Arm's length, 2–3 sprays | Let dry 2–3 min |
| 0:45 | Out the door | Bag packed | — |
Each step in detail
Cleanse (0:00–0:10)
Dry skin: CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser. Oily or combination: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. A pea-sized amount, 30–40 seconds, rinse. Avoid very hot water: it makes foundation crack on dry skin and brings oil up within half an hour on oily skin.
Toner (0:11)
Press three or four drops of Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner into the skin with your palms, no cotton. Optional, but it helps foundation sit smoothly on dry skin. Oily skin can skip it.
Moisturizer (0:12, then 5 minutes)
- Dry: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, pea-sized, a little extra on tight cheeks.
- Oily: CeraVe Oil Control Moisturizing Gel Cream, less than a pea.
- Combination: gel cream all over, a bit more on the cheeks.
Do not skip it on oily skin. Tight skin makes foundation cling to dry patches.
Sunscreen (0:18, then 10–15 minutes)
Two finger-lengths for face and neck; less than that cuts protection well below the label. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun is light and sits smoothly under makeup on most skin. Very oily skin may prefer Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch. Dot it on forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, spread gently, then keep your hands off your face for 10–15 minutes. Foundation, powder, setting (0:30–0:44)
- Foundation: a very thin layer. On oily skin a matte formula such as Maybelline Fit Me Matte Poreless Foundation, in your own shade. Press with a damp sponge; dragging lifts the sunscreen.
- Blot two minutes later so you need less powder.
- Powder on the nose, forehead and chin. Powder on dry cheeks looks patchy.
- Setting spray: Sheglam Press Refresh Setting Spray at arm's length, 2–3 sprays in an X and T. Do not touch until dry.

Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Patchy foundation on dry skin, cracking by the nose | Too little moisturizer, no toner, or a matte foundation | Toner plus cream moisturizer; thin foundation on a damp sponge; no powder on cheeks |
| Makeup melts within an hour on oily skin | Heavy moisturizer, thick sunscreen, no wait | Gel moisturizer, full 15-minute wait, T-zone powder, setting spray; blot outside, do not re-powder |
| Pilling: little balls on the skin | Layers too fast, too much product, or rubbing | Use less, wait between steps, press; lift the balls off and apply a thin layer on top |
| New pimple on the day | Sleepless pre-Puja nights, heat, touching | Do not squeeze; see the patch step below |
A pimple on the day
Do not squeeze it: the red mark grows and concealer will not hide it. If you notice it the night before, put a COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch on clean, dry skin and sleep in it; remove it when you wash in the morning. If it appears in the morning, patch it after cleansing, apply moisturizer and sunscreen around it, then remove the patch just before makeup and press a tiny amount of concealer on with a finger. For large, hard, painful pimples that keep coming back, see a doctor.
The night-before checklist
- Wax or threading: face 2–3 days ahead, arms and legs at least 2 days ahead. Not the night before; bumps and redness show under makeup.
- Shaving: face (for men) and underarms the night before, not the morning. Fresh shaves sting under sunscreen and perfume. For men: men's Puja skincare.
- No new products. Patch test any new foundation or sunscreen under the jaw at least two days ahead.
- No scrubs, peels or retinol all Puja week, and no new actives. Facials at least 3–4 days ahead.
- Remove the previous day's makeup fully. See removing Puja makeup.
- Lips: sleep in a thick layer of lip balm if chapped.
- Water and sleep: drink enough, and aim for 6–7 hours.
- Lay it all out: cleanser to setting spray in one place, sponge washed and dried.
Once you are out
Reapplying sunscreen over makeup is hard; every 2–3 hours in the sun, blot, then swipe a sun stick or SPF powder on top. Blot rather than splash. On all-day makeup: avoiding all-day makeup damage. The full day plan: the Puja-day skincare routine.
If your eyes turn red and itchy, welts appear or burning spreads, wash the makeup off and see a doctor.

Frequently asked questions
How long should I wait between skincare and makeup for Puja?
Wait about 5 minutes after moisturizer and 10 to 15 minutes after sunscreen before foundation. Use the waits to dress and do your hair, and plan 45 minutes from shower to door.
Why does my makeup pill?
Pilling happens when layers go on too fast, in too large an amount, or are rubbed in. Use less product, wait between steps and press foundation on with a damp sponge.
Can I use a pimple patch on the day of Puja?
Yes. Put a COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch on clean, dry skin, apply skincare around it, then remove it just before makeup and press on a little concealer. Do not squeeze the pimple.
Does hot, humid weather change the 45-minute skin prep timeline before makeup?
In heat and humidity each layer can take slightly longer to set, so it helps to add a minute or two to the wait after moisturiser and sunscreen before applying foundation. Starting prep a little earlier gives sweat and shine time to settle before you add makeup.
Where can I buy an authentic lightweight gel moisturiser for oily skin in Bangladesh?
Buy from a seller who can show the importer invoice and batch number for that specific moisturiser rather than trusting the listing photos alone. Matching the batch code on the jar or tube to the outer box is a quick check before you commit to a shade of makeup over it.
